1918 Style: Bolero Jacket

The “Anita” Bolero was originally published in the 1918 edition of Fleisher’s Knitting and Crocheting Manual. A stylish take on the era’s ubiquitous garter-stitch cardigan, the Anita Bolero is “boxy” and waist length, with contrast bands and an off-center buttoned closure, a nod to the era’s fascination with Oriental style.

The construction of this jacket is interesting: back and front, as well as the sleeves, are knit vertically in one piece, with the contrast bands picked up and knit with the yarn doubled; the buttonholes are crocheted.

The Bolero Jacket is stylish yet warm -- perfect for trips to the village on mild days or to visit family on staff’s “half-day off”.
