"The Complete Book of Knitting" by Barbara Abbey (1971) 239 pages.  ISBN 670233994

A good "how to knit" book, with a thorough explanation of all the basic procedures, from 8 different cast-ons to the final details of blocking and lining a garment.  Also included are 200 pattern stitches.  More than 300 drawings illustrate all the fundamental steps of knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, binding off, cables, braids and other multiple stitches, and working Fair Isle, Aran and Scandinavian Patterns.

A nice feature is the chapter on Abbreviations and Terms, with explanations for terms used in old instruction books, in British patterns, and also provides translations for French, Spanish, German and Swedish knitting vocabularies.

A very nice reference book at a great price!
